Pisces Season 2024
For the past four weeks, we’ve been invited to think about how we can transcend familial, cultural, and societal programming, so we can be a more authentic version of ourselves. We do this through questioning authority, thinking outside the box, and most importantly, following our hearts. This process cultivates individuality, and in this state of being, we can be of service to our family, community, and the world at large.
By liberating ourselves from the psychological and/or literal shackles that are preventing us from being who we truly are, we help elevate the consciousness of the planet. We first find ourselves, before we change the world. I say we first have to be ourselves because if we don’t, then we’ll just be going with the herd and we won’t be able to offer an innovative perspective or solution to how we have been operating as individuals and as a society.
What I just described is Aquarius energy, the astrological season we just navigated through. Aquarius is about individuality and humanity–finding yourself and then helping others do the same. By the way, these couple of sentences I just wrote about Aquarius will be the overall theme for the next 20 years as Pluto transits through the sign of the Water Bearer. We’re especially wrestling with those Aquarius themes of control, freedom, rebelling, authority, technology, innovation, the health of the collective, etc., at the moment because when an outer planet, like Pluto, enters a new sign, we experience the effects most intensely in the first few years of the planetary transition.
Okay, so now that we were invited to be ourselves, it’s time to forget about ourselves Wait what? Every four weeks, we have the opportunity to capitalize on the solar energy. For Aquarius season, it was about listening to your heart and seeing how you can help others follow their unique path. Now, we’re entering Pisces season, and the invitation is to transcend the ego and connect with consciousness.
This is not a season of bashing the ego, however. We all need an ego (in astrology we call that placement your Sun) to live with purpose, but sometimes we can get too full of ourselves. Therefore, the four weeks that the Sun transits through Pisces is a time surrender to consciousness, a higher power, the Divine, the Universe, or God. I feel most of you reading this will resonate with what I just said, but let’s say you don’t, then what I will say to you is that for the time that the Sun is in Pisces, it’s time to log hours being in the present moment and/or tapping into the flow state.
Whether it’s connecting with a higher intelligence or channeling your muse, the point with Pisces season is about decoupling your ego from consciousness. It’s about investing time with your intuitive mind, rather than your logical mind. You can do this in a myriad of ways, but let me list a handful of activities that can help you connect with consciousness.
Piscean Strategies:
Meditating
Surfing
Art
Praying
Running
Staring out into the ocean, a fire, or out into the horizon
Yoga
Music
Psychedelics
Chanting
Journaling
Walking
What all these activities have in common is that they can help you understand that you're more than just your physical body, thoughts, or emotions. By tapping into the present moment or flow state, you can be filled with gratitude for the experience you just had. In doing so, you can take that love and compassion and share it with others.
If you’re a fellow spiritual explorer, then you’ve probably heard about you not being your body, not even your mind, but you being consciousness. Essentially, most spiritual teachings help you understand that you are awareness experiencing what’s happening in the outer and inner reality. All of the Piscean strategies listed help you become the conscious observer of your reality, but living a spiritual life goes beyond those activities. It’s about being aware moment-to-moment that you aren’t your experiences, feelings, or thoughts. Those Piscean strategies are just training wheels to help you take that awareness out into your daily life.
Whether it’s sitting cross-legged concentrating on your breathing or it’s running or it’s writing poems, these activities that help remind you of your true essence will support you when shit hits the fan. You can quickly recognize that you aren’t the experience nor the emotions that the experience is having you feel. And it’s not about avoiding feeling the feelings. Feel them! That’s how you honor them so that they can be transmuted and not be filed away to be buried in your unconscious.
The best way to describe living a spiritual life is to live with an open heart. When unpleasant situations arise, remind yourself, “How would my heart-centered version of myself respond to this?” or “What will this matter in 1000 years?” A person who leads with an open heart will respond with compassion and will honor the emotions that are arising within them. This same person will also know that they are just the observer of what is happening; they are not the situation nor the thoughts nor the emotions. The quicker you can recognize that you are awareness and allow the feelings to run the course, the quicker you can release them and get on with your life.
During these next four weeks, choose an activity in which you can connect with consciousness. By learning to become conscious of your inner reality, you can master not allowing your outer reality to affect your state of being. Do this, and you’ve unlocked a major key to living a fulfilling life.
“If you don't become the ocean, you'll be seasick every day.”
